A. The purpose of everything published here

This website exists to explain foot and ankle health in general terms to a general audience. It is a library, not a clinic. Its material is written before it ever meets a reader, without knowledge of who that reader is, what their history contains, what an examination would show, or what any imaging would reveal. That is the whole reason for the limits set out below: not caution for its own sake, but the plain fact that general writing cannot answer a particular question about a particular foot.

B. The full scope of this warning

The following statements govern the entire website and every communication we send. They are reproduced here in full, in the same terms used in our Terms & Conditions:

  • All website content is educational and informational only.
  • It is not medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a cure.
  • Use of the website does not form a doctor-patient relationship.
  • Readers should consult a licensed physician or qualified healthcare professional before changing diet, exercise, supplements, or healthcare plans.
  • These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
  • This content is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

C. No professional relationship is created

Reading these pages, using the interactive tools, subscribing to updates, or writing to us through the contact form does not make you our patient and does not put any clinician in a treating relationship with you. No duty of care arises from your visit. Correspondence sent through this website is general in nature and is not a clinical opinion about you, however specific your question may be.

D. Circumstances differ, and nothing here is guaranteed

Two people can describe the same pain in the same words and have entirely different conditions underneath it. Age, activity, footwear, circulation, nerve function, prior injury, and systemic conditions such as diabetes all change what a symptom means and what should be done about it. Nothing published here predicts a result for you, and no outcome is promised. General information is a starting point for a conversation with a professional — never a substitute for one, and never a reason to conclude that your situation matches the one described on the page.

E. Consult someone who can actually examine you

Before acting on anything you read here — and before changing your diet, your exercise, any supplement, your footwear regimen, or any part of your healthcare plan — discuss it with a licensed physician, podiatrist, or other qualified healthcare professional who can assess your own circumstances. Never disregard professional advice, and never delay seeking it, because of something you read on this website.

F. Emergencies do not belong on a website

If you believe you are having a medical emergency, stop reading and call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not use our contact form, our email address, or our text message program to report an urgent problem: none of them is monitored continuously, and none is a route to emergency care.

G. What the interactive tools do

The Symptom Explorer is an illustrated reference to the anatomy of the foot and ankle and to conditions commonly associated with each region. It does not assess your symptoms, produce a score or probability, rank urgency, or identify what you have — selecting a region simply opens the encyclopedia entry for that area. The Plan Your Visit checklist helps you assemble documents and write down questions before an appointment; the coverage questions it suggests are prompts to put to your own plan administrator, and neither the tool nor this website determines or implies what any plan will pay for. Where these tools remember your entries, they do so in your own browser and nowhere else, as described in our Privacy Policy.

H. Accuracy has a shelf life

We take care with what we publish, but medical understanding moves and pages age. We make no representation that any article is complete, accurate, or current at the moment you happen to read it, and a page carrying an older date may have been overtaken by newer evidence. Nothing here is updated on a guaranteed schedule.

I. Links that leave this website

Outbound links are offered as convenience, not endorsement. We do not control external websites, do not vet their content or medical validity on any schedule, and take no responsibility for what they publish, what they claim, or how they treat your information. Once you follow such a link, this notice no longer applies to what you are reading.
